St. Hilarion Castle is an impressive medieval fortress located on the western peak of the Pentadaktylos Mountains in the Kyrenia district of Northern Cyprus. The castle is not named after the 4th-century saint who lived in Palestine and Cyprus, but rather after a monk who retreated to these mountains to live in solitude, fleeing from the Holy Lands. The castle was originally built as a monastery during the Byzantine era and was later transformed into a palace during the Crusader period. Today, the ruins of the castle reveal the region's rich history and strategic significance.
